A method and system of the short message forking. The method mostly includes: the first network entity obtains the capability information of the terminal or the format conversion information of the short message corresponding to the terminal, after the network entity receives the short messages needed to send to one or more called terminals, it converts the short messages into short messages of one or more formats able to be received by one or more called terminals according to the obtained capability information of the terminals or the format conversion information of the short message corresponding to the terminals. In the case of the multiple terminals having the different capabilities share the IMPU, every terminal can receive the short message of the accurate format.
