PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve efficiency in coloring each closed region of an uncolored line image, and improve quality of a colored line image. SOLUTION: After an uncolored line image is converted to a multiple-gradation image, a feature quantity is analyzed as a statistical distribution of the gradation in the multiple-gradation image. A plurality of closed regions are separated from the drawing surface of the line image based on the feature quantity, and kinds of the respective objects represented by the closed regions are recognized according to a predetermined rule. A core line is extracted from the uncolored line image, and the breakage of the core line is corrected to acquire a closed curve. A partial region surrounded by the closed curve is cut out of the drawing surface to acquire cut-out regions, and the cut-out regions are automatically colored according to the kind of object corresponding to each of the cut-out regions.
