PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device 14 that heats, while holding and conveying, a recording material S carrying a toner image t at a nip part N formed by a first rotor 140 and a second rotor 141 at least one of which is an endless belt to fix the toner image, and make it possible to detect that the belt is damaged in a wide area in a generatrix direction and a circumferential direction of the belt without being affected by scratches generated on and foreign substances adhered to a surface irrespective of the presence/absence of a conductive layer.SOLUTION: A fixing device comprises: a moving member 150 that is approximate to a belt and can move between a first position on an end of the belt and a second position on the center part in a generatrix direction of the belt; and a control part that executes, at a predetermined control timing, a control sequence including a first step of moving the moving member to a second position from a first position as a starting point or to the first position from the second position as a starting point, and a second step of notifying a user of an error when arrival of the moving member moved from the first or second position to the second or first position cannot be detected within a predetermined period.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
