The device has voltage input terminal (1) and voltage output terminal (2) which are switchably connected to each other via switching device (30). A measuring circuit (40) detects voltage at the voltage input terminal. A control device (50) controls switching device based on detected voltage such that voltage output terminal is disconnected from voltage input terminal by switching device in case of overvoltage at voltage input terminal. The control device is connected to voltage input terminal via a voltage transformer (60) so that power is supplied to control device in overvoltage.
