Method of treating a fibrous web

In a process to dewater a moving web of paper or carton, the web runs at high speed with a dewatering felt between two contra-rotating drums (1, 2) forming a nip gap (N). The web then follows the contour of one drum (2) to a lift-off point (6) at which a gap (5) is formed between the web (3) and drum (2). Hot steam is injected into the gap, promoting separation of web from drum. The same steam separation process may also be used at a web drying or glazing station. The quantity of hot steam discharged into the gap is regulated.
