METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRANSMITTING/RECEIVING DATA

Provided are a data transmitting/receiving method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving color gamut information between High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) devices or Digital Video Interface (DVI) devices to which a Transition Minimized Differential Signaling (TDMS) method is applied. The data transmitting/receiving method includes: establishing at least one multimedia signal channel between a transmitter and a receiver; encoding video data, audio data, auxiliary data, and preamble data; transmitting the encoded video data, the encoded auxiliary data, and the encoded preamble data, respectively, in a video data period, a data island period, and a control period for each multimedia signal channel; assigning the color gamut information to transmission bits which are not used in the data island period or the control period; and transmitting the color gamut information together with the encoded data.
