<p>Disclosed are: a hollow microparticle which enables to produce a coating film having an anti-reflective effect and high film strength; a method for producing the hollow microparticle; a coating composition which can form a coating film having an anti-reflective effect and high film strength; and an article which can exhibit a high anti-reflective effect for a long period. Specifically disclosed are: a hollow microparticle which is mainly composed of SiO<SUB>2</SUB> and contains other metal, wherein the content of the other metal (in terms of its oxide) is 0.2 to 8 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of SiO<SUB>2</SUB>; a coating composition comprising the hollow microparticle and a disperse medium; an article comprising a base material and a coating film comprising the coating composition and formed on the base material; and a method for producing a hollow microparticle comprising the following steps (a) and (b): (a) in a dispersion solution containing an SiO<SUB>2</SUB> precursor, at least one compound containing the other metal selected from the group consisting of a metal chelate compound, an organic tin compound, a metal alcoholate and a metal fatty acid salt and a core micromarticle, causing a shell mainly composed of SiO<SUB>2</SUB> and containing the other metal to precipitate on the surface of the core microparticle to produce a core-shell particle; and (b) dissolving or decomposing the core microparticle in the core-shell particle.</p> |
