A thickness detector of paper comprises a reference roller becoming a thickness judgment reference provided on a fixed rotating shaft, a detection roller provided oppositely to the reference roller in contact therewith, a detection block having one end provided with the detection roller and the other end fixed turnably about the fulcrum axis and performs rotary displacement depending on the thickness of a paper passing between the reference roller and the detection roller, a block for holding at least the fulcrum axis of the detection block, a first press member secured to the holding block and pressing a portion of the detection block to sustain adhesion of the detection roller and the reference roller and displacing depending on the rotary displacement of the detection block when a paper passes between the reference roller and the detection roller, and a means performing noncontact detection of displacement of the first press member. A plurality of detection units each consisting of the detection roller, the detection block, the first press member and the displacement detection means are arranged over the fulcrum axis. |
