The present invention relates to a novel diaminodicarboxylic acid represented by general formula (1): <CHEM> (wherein A is an aliphatic group; one of R<1> and R<2> is a carboxyl group, and the other is an amino group or a carbamoyl group; and one of R<3> and R<4> is a carboxyl group, and the other is an amino group or a carbamoyl group), a carbamoyl compound which is a synthetic intermediate for the diaminodicarboxylic acid, and a process for producing the diaminodicarboxylic acid. <??>The diaminodicarboxylic acid can be produced by Hofmann reaction of the carbamoyl compound and is a useful compound as a starting material for resins or an additive for resins.
