<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can facilitate a replacement work of an image carrier such as a photoreceptor, and also can prevent a deterioration in image quality due to a deterioration in image registration even when the image carrier such as a photoreceptor is replaced. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a stretching mechanism for switching the position of an intermediate transfer belt between a tension apply position where the the tension is applied to the intermediate transfer belt and a tension mitigation position where the tension to the belt is mitigated; an abutting member for moving the intermediate transfer belt between an abutment position where the intermediate transfer abuts on with the image carrier and a separation position where the intermediate transfer belt is separated from the image carrier cooperatively with the switching operation of the stretching mechanism; an operating member for performing the switching operation of the stretching mechanism between the tension apply position and the tension mitigation position; and a prepressure apply member for applying a prepressure to the image carrier unit so as to brake the movement of the image carrier unit along the axial direction cooperatively with the operation of switching of the operating member to the tension apply position. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
