<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of effectively suppressing thickened characters by feeding back the thickness of the characters that depend on actual copies. <P>SOLUTION: After a count of black pixels of a first generation copy image is moved to a temporary storage area of a RAM, image scanning of the first generation copy is executed to obtain a count of black pixels of a second generation copy image, a density change rate is calculated (steps 101 to 104), when the density change rate is smaller than a minimum permissible value or greater than a maximum permissible value, and error display is executed (steps 105 to 107). When there is density change rate between the minimum permissible value and the maximum permissible value, the density change rate is compared with a target lower limit change rate and with a target higher limit change rate; when the density change rate is smaller than the target lower limit change rate, the print density is made denser by one step than the present density; and when the density change rate is larger than the target upper limit change rate, the printing density is made lighter by one step than the present density (steps 108 to 118). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
