Provided is a retractable ballast tank comprising: a ballast tank which is embedded in the bottom of a ship in normal times; and a descent unit which allows the ballast tank to descend from the ship when necessary. Therefore, the present invention lowers the center of mass of the ship by allowing the ballast tank to descend when necessary, thereby improving restoring force and recovering the stability of the ship.
