A strap assembly for lifting a load has a plurality of elongated flexible straps that are joined together and configured in such as way as to enable relatively quick, easy securement of a large object so that it can be safely hoisted. In addition, the present invention discloses a method of hoisting a heavy object, such as an air conditioning unit, into a confined space such as an attic of a home. The strap assembly provides Velcro(R) type fastening elements enabling the strap assembly to be fitted to a wide range of loads.
