PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage system advantageous for preventing a performance deterioration, a memory controller, and a control method.SOLUTION: A storage system 1 includes: a first nonvolatile memory 11 including a storage area capable of storing multi-bit data; a second nonvolatile memory 21 having a larger storage capacity than the first nonvolatile memory; and a memory controller 12 which controls the first nonvolatile memory 11 to reduce the number of bits stored in the storage area based on a usage state of the storage area.
