A portable telephone has an upper case (2) having a front surface provided with an LCD panel (21), a lower case (3) having a front surface provided with a keypad (22), and an antenna. The upper and lower cases (2, 3) are connected together in such a way that they can be opened and closed. The upper case (2) is provided with a first control plate (10) which can reflect an electromagnetic wave, and the lower case (3) is provided with a second control plate (11) which can reflect an electromagnetic wave. The first control plate (10) and the second control plate (11) are separate members independent of each other. In an open state where the angle between the front faces of the upper and lower cases (2, 3) becomes largest, the projection area of the first and second control plates (10, 11) relative to the surfaces of the upper and lower cases (2, 3) becomes largest.
