A method and an apparatus for handling a random access procedure in a wireless communication system are provided to perform timing alignment and a resource request to improve the efficiency of a system. A UE(User Equipment) outputs a message 3 not including a dedicated field indicating whether or not it includes a C-RNTI(Cell-Radio Network Temporary Identifier) as a transmission during a random access procedure(302). The message 3 corresponds to the first schedule uplink transmission via an uplink shared channel. The schedule transmission is an initial access or a service request. The message 3 is set to include a UE identity field and a different field indicating what type of identity is used as the UE identity. |
