A striker reinforcement for an automotive door frame

A striker reinforcement plate 30 is disclosed for installation into the interior of a closed section hydroformed tubular automotive frame member 20. The striker reinforcement plate 30 is formed with an enlarged mounting tab 35 at one end and a weld tab 36 at the opposing end both of which are connected to a central portion by flexible strips 38. The central portion 32 and weld tab 36 of the striker reinforcement plate 30 are inserted into the frame member 20 through a mounting slot 25 formed in a wall of the tubular frame member 20, the enlarged mounting tab 35 preventing the striker reinforcement plate 30 from falling through the slot 25, and the weld tab 36 is then fed out through a special formed opening 27 and is welded to the exterior surface of the tubular frame member 20.
