PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet handling apparatus and a paper sheet handling method that can stably acquire data of paper sheets. SOLUTION: The paper sheet handling apparatus 1 stores reference data in advance, feeds a paper sheet 10, projects light onto the paper sheet 10 fed and a reference color member 34 disposed outside the paper sheet feed area, receives and electrically converts reflected light reflected by the reference color member 34 to acquire comparison data, receives and electrically converts reflected light reflected by the paper sheet 10 to acquire paper sheet data, calculates a correction value from the comparison data and the stored reference data, and corrects the paper sheet data with the calculated correction value.
