The purpose of the present invention is to achieve further advanced knowledge extraction by performing knowledge extraction reflecting both design information and actual running data and thereby enabling confirmation of a difference between a content described in a specification and the actual plant operation. A method for extracting knowledge from an engineering document is characterized by: generating a key design signal string from a design specification obtained from design information and a key signal which is an IO signal of an instrumentation device; generating a key operation data signal string from the key signal and actual running data; and comparing the key design signal string and the key operation data signal string.
