[Class 38 (iii).] Reversing.-A D.C. motor for a toy locomotive is provided with two oppositely wound field windings p, t each connected with a unidirectional current-carrying device n<1>, n<2>, and the motor is caused to run in one or the other direction by reversing the direction of current flow in the conductors m, r. The conductor m is connected to the middle rail i through a current collector l, and the conductor r is connected through the wheels k of the locomotive to the outer rails h. If the source of supply a is alternating, the current is rectified at b and supplied to the rails h, i through a reversing switch e. The switch may have a middle or " stop " position in which it is connected directly to the A.C. supply, in which case the motor is inoperative, but any auxiliary apparatus adapted to work on either A.C. or D.C., such as the head lamp w, continues to function.
