The invention relates to a method for cleaning a membrane (3) of a membrane aerosol generator (4) of an inhalation therapy device (100), which membrane can vibrate, wherein a cleaning liquid is fed to the membrane (3) and the membrane (3) is caused to vibrate in such a way that the cleaning liquid is conveyed through the openings of the membrane (3), wherein the cleaning liquid contains at least one surfactant. The invention further relates to a combination of a cleaning device (1) and of a cleaning liquid, wherein the cleaning device (1) is designed for cleaning a membrane (3) of a membrane aerosol generator (4) of an inhalation therapy device (100), which membrane can vibrate. The cleaning device (1) comprises a liquid-feeding apparatus (2), which is designed to feed the cleaning liquid to the membrane (3), and a vibration activation apparatus (9), which is designed to activate membrane vibrations such that the cleaning liquid is conveyed through the openings of the membrane (3).
