TERMINALLY KETO-SUBSTITUTED OLIGOTHIOPHENES AND USE THEREOF IN OPTICAL SIGNAL TRANSMISSION

Terminally keto-substituted oligothiophenes are characterized by substantial fluorescence quantum yields and short fluorescence decay times and are therefore particularly suitable as frequency converters in optical signal transmission systems, such as optical slip rings. The oligothiophenes having keto end groups can be produced from the oligothiophenes and carboxylic acid chlorides in Friedel-Crafts reactions.
