Disclosed are a data transmission method and apparatus, which are used to realize flexible mapping between user data and an encoding matrix and improve the system performance. The method comprises: a network side acquiring a current data transmission rule, the rule including a mapping relationship between K user equipments dispatched at present and data layers on N transmission resources corresponding to a selected encoding matrix, one user equipment at least occupying one data layer, and the network side and the user equipments transmitting the data according to the rule. In this way, various patterns can be flexibly selected to map the encoding matrix, and a transmission load of the user equipment can be increased, thereby increasing an overall throughout capacity of the system, or decreasing a modulation encoding level while guaranteeing a certain spectral efficiency, so as to further reduce the algorithm complexity of a receiver. |
