PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrospun nanofiber liquid filtration medium having a microorganism LRV greater than about 8, suitable for full retention of microorganisms such as bacteria, Mycoplasma in particular, and/or a B. Diminuta LRV greater than about 9, suitable for full retention of B. Diminuta, while simultaneously achieving high permeability and high throughput.SOLUTION: A polymeric electrospun porous nanofiber filtration medium exhibits high microorganism retention and high liquid permeability, and has a microorganism Log Reduction Value (LRV) greater than 8 allowing full retention of microorganisms from a liquid sample. The porous nanofiber filtration medium comprises an electrospun nanofiber having a fiber diameter of 10-1,000 nm, and has a liquid permeability greater than 300 LMH/psi and a mean flow bubble point, as tested with isopropanol, of 1-100 psi.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
