The present invention relates to a transmission for a vehicle and, more specifically, relates to a compound transmission combining a differential gear and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a switching function of a shaft rotating direction, which switches a rotating direction of a shaft before the CVT is operated to be same as a rotating direction by means of the CVT while transmitting power through the differential gear and a gearshift at a low speed, and transmitting power through the CVT and the differential gear at a high speed. According to the present invention, a speed can be more smoothly changed when changing a speed with a CVT unit in high stages by switching a rotating direction of an auxiliary shaft through a rotation sync gear set before the CVT unit operated at a high speed is operated to be same as a rotating direction of the auxiliary shaft by means of the CVT unit. Moreover, a change gear ratio from one stage to a three stage can be appropriately controlled to be applied to a large vehicle.
