<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multilayer ceramic electronic component capable of efficiently making a plating film grow when forming an external terminal electrode on a surface of a ceramic element by direct plating and having high productivity, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: In side faces 21 (22) of a ceramic element 10 including laminated ceramic layers 50 and internal conductors 41 (42); exposed portions 41c (42c) of the internal conductors, which are exposed to the side faces, are connected to each other by connection portions 41d existing along the lamination direction of the ceramic layers to coat the exposed portions of the inner conductors and the connection portions on lines and the external terminal electrodes include ground plating films formed on the side faces by direct plating.
