PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus low in cost, user-friendly and having no influence on a read image without complicating control or the apparatus by changing a printing speed according to a reading resolution, and to provide a control method. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus such as an inkjet serial type multifunctional printer has a means for detecting a document reading resolution, a means for detecting a print processing speed, a means for changing the print processing speed, a means for detecting a document reading state, and a means for detecting the print processing state. In the case of detecting that the document read processing is already in progress when print processing is started, the print processing speed is changed according to the reading resolution.
