The present invention is generally directed to a drug delivery device for selecting and dispensing a number of user variable doses of a medicament. The device comprises a housing (10) having a window or opening, a dose selector (40) operable to set a dose by rotation relative to the housing (10), a release member (100) controlling movement of a piston (111) in a dispensing direction, and a display comprising a units number wheel (51) and a tens number wheel (52) which are coupled to each other such that a continuous rotation of the units number wheel (51) is translated into an intermittent rotary motion of the tens number wheel (52). The release member (100) rotates during dose dispensing an angle corresponding to the dose set by the dose selector (40), thereby allowing a piston to move in a dispensing direction. The units number wheel (51) is coupled to the tens number wheel (52) by a gear mechanism (54, 55). The device further comprises a clutch mechanism (60) which rotationally couples the units number wheel (51) to the dose selector (40) and decouples the units number wheel (51) from the release member (100) during dose setting and which rotationally de-couples the units number wheel (51) from the dose selector (40) and couples the units number wheel (51) to the release member (100) during dose dispensing. |
