A hydraulic actuator 2 is provided. The hydraulic actuator comprises a cylinder 4 and a gland 22 which are releasably securable together. The gland 22 has an internal surface which defines an axial passage for housing a piston rod 6, and an external surface. The internal surface of the gland has an internal circumferential groove 12, and the external surface of the gland has an external circumferential groove 44. The gland 22 further has a connecting passage 34 which connects the internal circumferential groove 12 and the external circumferential groove 44. |
