TEXT SUBTITLE DECODER AND METHOD FOR DECODING TEXT SUBTITLE STREAMS

A text subtitle decoder and a text subtitle stream decoding method are provided to define specific reproduction control information in a text subtitle stream so that text data for a text subtitle included in the text subtitle stream is reproduced in a standardized way. A text subtitle decoder(42) comprises as follows. A text subtitle processor(411) parses a text subtitle stream with text data and reproduction control information. The text data shows a subtitle text to be displayed within a text subtitle area. After the text subtitle stream is parsed, a text renderer(412) renders the text data to bitmap data by using the reproduction control information. A presentation controller(415) controls operation of the text renderer(412) and the text subtitle processor(411).
