<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma torch capable of efficiently cutting both thinner and thicker plate materials. <P>SOLUTION: An electrode system for a plasma torch 100 comprises a first electrode holder 150 which is configured in a first cutting arrangement and adapted to cut a thinner workpiece. The first electrode holder is configured to receive a first electrode assembly 190 comprising a holder element 200 having an emissive insert element 230 received therein. A second electrode holder 150a is configured in a second cutting arrangement and is adapted to cut a thicker workpiece. The second electrode holder is interchangeable with the first electrode holder with respect to the plasma torch. The second electrode holder is further configured to receive a second electrode assembly 500 comprising a pencil element 510. The interchangeable first and second electrode holders thereby allow a single plasma torch to cut both the thinner and thicker workpieces.
