Non-woven filament material (I) based on synthetic or cellulosic polymers and bonded by filament stitches in making up a filament web, fabric or two-dimensional layer (II), in which the stitches consist of continuous filament parts of the web, fabric or layer (II), with at least 10 filament parts in each stitch and at least 5 wt% of the total mass of nonwoven contained in the stitches. An independent claim is included for a method for the production of (I) by knitting a web etc. (II) using filament parts with a 3-dimensional mobility of 4-20 mm, this mobility being assigned to the arrangement of the parts in (II) and/or their crimping and/or their stretchability, while the number of parts in each stitch and the amount in all stitches is arrived at by suitable optimisation of process parameters, i.e. feed mass, machine gauge, stitch length, locking point and/or swing stroke.
