PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a malfunction when an element is charged forcibly. SOLUTION: The controller of a liquid discharge head comprises a drive signal generating section, a signal applying section, and a charge control section. The drive signal generating section generates a first drive signal having a plurality of first waveform parts, and a second drive signal having a plurality of second waveform parts simultaneously during the some period and generates the some period repeatedly as a repeating unit. The signal applying section applies required first and second waveform parts to an element. The charge control section selects either one of a portion of reference voltage on the first waveform part side and a portion of reference voltage on the second waveform part side generated at first in some period for every element from the application information of second and subsequent first waveform parts and second and subsequent second waveform parts and then applies the selected portion over a period specified by a forcible charging signal.
