PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to retrieve information required by the user while reducing frequency of user's input of a free word to the utmost, in a retrieval device capable of executing kind retrieval and free word retrieval. SOLUTION: In a retrieval registration system, a use amount of the retrieved free word or keyword is monitored, and it is decided whether the use amount becomes larger than a preset threshold value (a prescribed use frequency or use time) or not. When deciding that the use amount becomes larger than the preset threshold value, a character string including a part of a character string of the free word or the keyword is set as a new genre (a new kind), and the new genre is made to be stored in a database. Accordingly, because the new genre can be added when the use amount of the free word or the keyword becomes larger than the threshold value, the user can thereafter retrieve the same information by designating the kind without inputting the free word when retrieving the information.
