PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which can perform high-efficiency polarization conversion and has the high use efficiency of light even in a configuration using a rod integrator with respect to an illumination optical system of a liquid crystal projector of a single-panel type. SOLUTION: An optical axis 71 of a first light guide member and an optical axis 72 of a second light guide member are disposed with the same space from an illumination lens optical axis 73 of an illumination optical system 10, an emission light from the optical axis 71 of the first light guide member passes through illumination lenses 41, 42 and is made incident on a reflection type polarizing plate 51, a first polarized light is transmitted and is projected to a liquid crystal panel 53, a second polarized light is reflected, passes through an optical axis 72 of the second light guide member from the illumination lenses 42, 41, is reflected on a second selective reflection transmission film 24, returns to the optical axis 72 of the second light guide member and an illumination lens optical axis 73, is converted to the first polarization by a quarter-wave plate 52, is transmitted through a reflection type polarizing plate 51 and is projected to the liquid crystal panel 53.
