An illuminated keyboard is provided with a push to make switch assembly having a hollow push button and upper window through which light may be emitted. The illuminated keyboard comprises a light source 290 and a plurality of keys 210 having transparent upper faces. The keys being located in apertures (64, fig. 12) in a mask 276 interposed between the light source 290 and the keys 210. The keys 210 comprise a hollow structure so as not to obstruct light passing directly from the light source 290 to the surface of the key 210. The mask comprises a switch membrane 280 and a support sheet 274. Each key 210 is provided with a leaf spring 228 in order to bias the keys 210 away from the switch membrane 280.
