<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a size of a portable electronic device provided with a touch input apparatus wherein a touch panel is arranged on the surface of a display in comparison with a conventional portable electronic device. <P>SOLUTION: The portable electronic device is provided with a touch input apparatus comprising a touch panel 6 arranged on the surface of a display 4. The touch panel 6 has a protruding lead section 62 at the end portion of a detecting section 61. The detecting section 61 is provided with a matrix region (A) wherein X value detection lines 63 and Y value detection lines 64 are arranged in matrix, and an extraction region (B) wherein a plurality of extraction lines 65 extending from the matrix region (A) in the same direction as the X value detection lines 63 and to the lead section 62.
