A tire tread comprising a rubber composition that is based upon a cross -linkable elastomer composition, the cross-linkable elastomer composition comprising, per 100 parts by weight of rubber (phr) a highly unsaturated rubber and greater than 45 phr of a terpene phenolic resin. The rubber composition may further include a reinforcing filler and a curing system. Optionally the highly unsaturated rubber may be functionalized with an end-chain silanol group and in some embodiments, the entire rubber content of the rubber composition may be such a functionalized rubber, e.g., a silanol end-chain functionalized SBR.
