A method for detecting a facial image, a method for studying the detection of the facial image, and a system for realizing the same are provided to suggest the combination of a cascade and a weighted chain to provide an environment of using a previous reliability value. A system for detecting a facial image includes a weak classifier operation unit(510), a haar feature estimation unit(520), a comparative unit(530), and a determination unit(540). The weak classifier operation unit(510) operates a weak classifier related to a stage from a modified double sigmoid function. The haar feature estimation unit(520) estimates a haar feature by using the weak classifier. The comparative unit(530) compares the operation value of a strong classifier H(x) with a predetermined reference value according to the estimation of the haar feature. The determination unit(540) determines the sub window of an input image related to the stage as a facial image or a non-facial image.
