<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a registering gap displaying apparatus and a method capable of recognizing how much register of each unit is shifted at a glance, correctly and easily, and recognizing the register gap on a printing picture pattern. <P>SOLUTION: The registering gap displaying apparatus is equipped with an image pick-up timing controlling means 2 for picking up an image of a registering mark 12 printed on a running printed matter 100, an image picking-up means 1 for picking up the image of the registering mark 12 under its controlling and outputting the picked-up image, a coordinate operating means 3 for inputting the picked-up image and operating the coordinates of the registering mark 12, a displaying image forming means 6 for forming a displaying image which arranges graphically a registering mark symbol so that one of the longitudinal and horizontal directions becomes to an amount of the registering gap based on the coordinates, and a displaying means 7 for displaying the displaying image.
