<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording system that records data into a recording medium capable of detecting whether data have been rewritten, and a reproduction system that detects, by reproducing data, whether the data have been rewritten. <P>SOLUTION: A recording/reproduction system S1 for recording and reproducing data to/from a magnetic tape 10A having a support 14A, and a rewritable magnetic layer 11A and a write-once optical recording layer 13A formed on the support 14A includes a recording head 21, a reproduction head 23, a data writing means 30 for writing data into the optical recording layer 13A, a data reading means 40 for reading data from the optical recording layer 13A, and a control device 100B.
