PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compatibly provide both low power consumption and high resolution in normal use. SOLUTION: A subpixel 110 in a first display area 100 has a gray scale corresponding to the voltage of a data signal supplied to a data line 114 when a scanning line 112 is selected. A pixel 210 in a second display area 200 has a memory circuit 220, and is in an ON display state when one logic level is held in the memory circuit 220 and in an OFF display state when the other is held. A Y driver 30 while selecting scanning lines 112, row by row, in an entire-screen display mode does not select the scanning lines 112 in a partial display mode. An X driver 40 outputs a data signal corresponding to the gray scale of a subpixel 110 corresponding to a selected scanning line 112 in the entire-screen display mode and also outputs a data signal specifying the ON display or OFF display of a pixel 210 corresponding to a selected row select line 212.
