<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a construction machine having a counterweight which does not obstruct the operation of a work device, enabling the quantity of counterweights to be easily increased, and allowing the use of an inexpensive counterweight. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This construction machine comprises a self-runnable carrier 2, a superstructure rotatably installed on the carrier 2, and the work device and a cabin installed on the superstructure. In the carrier 2, each of left and right side-frames 10 which are positioned on both left and right sides of a truck frame forming the frame of the carrier 2 comprises a counterweight mounting shaft 11 projecting from the side surface of the side frame 10 outward. A plate-like counterweight 13 having an engagement hole 15 extending therethrough in the lateral direction is detachably mounted on the counterweight mounting shaft 11 by engaging the counterweight mounting shaft 11 in the engagement hole 15 and screwing a lock nut 12 with the front end of the counterweight mounting shaft 11 extending through the counterweight 13.
