PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for production of a metal powder for performing reduction treatment while preventing surfaces of a metal powder from being coated with oxide films.SOLUTION: A process for production of a metal powder comprises: reducing a mixture of metal halides in a molten state by a reductant selected from an alkali or alkaline earth metal, the reaction producing a metal powder coated with halide salts; heating the reaction product to a temperature above the boiling points of the salts and filtering the metal powder to allow removal of the molten salts, where the removed components are collected to allow re-use.SELECTED DRAWING: None
