418,523. Lapping and honing machines. OUBRIDGE, W. A., Parklands, Park Road, Coventry. May 18, 1933, No. 14346. Divided out of 417,400. [Class 60.] In a lapping or honing machine of the kind comprising relatively rotatable laps 2, 4, the upper of which is carried by a spindle 3 projecting upwardly through the lower, the position of the upper end of the bearing 5 of the spindle with respect to the normal level of the abrasive liquid in a container 7 mounted above the upper lap is such that the liquid cannot reach and enter the bearing, the upper end of the bearing being above the level of the liquid when the lap is lowered to operative position. In the machine shown, the bearing is further protected by telescoping tubular guards 8, 9 carried by the upper and lower laps respectively and surrounding the bearing.
