<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a load of a network device more proper when monitoring a state of the network device. <P>SOLUTION: In this state monitoring system, a response history responding to requirement of state information from a client terminal is read (S200), a use rate (an ability use rate) of response ability is calculated on the basis of a transmission/reception data total amount and the response ability (a processable data amount) of a printer 20 (S210), a monitoring interval is set with a tendency wherein the interval becomes short on the basis of the ability use rate when the ability use rate is 90% or below or when an error does not occur (S240), an error rate is calculated on the basis of a requirement number and the number of errors when the ability use rate exceeds 90% and when the error occurs (S250), and the monitoring interval is set with a tendency wherein the interval becomes long on the basis of the error rate (S260).
