PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To construct a system which performs authentication of documents properly without enlarging the scale of the system. SOLUTION: A document authentication server device 1 comprises a transmitting/receiving means for a document, an operating means for performing operation using a document summary computational algorithm, and a means for registering and reading the result of the operation to and from a storage 2. While the document authentication server device 1 and arbitrary terminal devices 3 and 4 for performing exchange of the document are connected to the Internet 100, a Japanese standard time server 5 can be browsed. At the document authentication server device 1, a document of authentication source transmitted from, for example, the terminal device 3 over a path (1) is received with the transmitting/receiving means. The transmitting/receiving means delivers the received document and an information on a time, when the Japanese standard time server 5 is browsed, to the operating means over a path (2) for the operation using the document summary computational algorithm. While the generated document summary value and the time information are written in the storage 2 through the registration means, an identification information such as a write address of the storage 2 is transmitted to the terminal device 3.
