The method involves placing board material (1) e.g. stone, on a processing table (7) and positioning the materials by using a marking laser (9) and a transport lever (13) with a flexible stop bar (14). Movement of the materials is restricted and pressure waves in a zone are exposed to a changed material structure to achieve a separation of the materials along predetermined break attenuation lines (2). Impulse waves with point focus zone (4) are used as pressure zones. The pressure waves are generated by a ballistic pressure wave generator using an electro-magnetic sound producing principle. An independent claim is also included for a device for separating or isolating materials to provide attenuation lines by using pressure waves.
