TRANSCODING APPARATUS AND TRANSCODING METHOD FOR DISTRIBUTED MULTIMEDIA TRANSMISSION NETWORK PROVIDED WITH TRANSCODER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transcoding apparatus and its method capable of maximally maintaining an original image quality by converting multimedia data to a codec of appropriate compression rate to be transmitted even in a reduced network bandwidth, when the data is transmitted to an adjacent node in a network provided with a transcoder.

SOLUTION: This apparatus includes a codec router provided with a codec list to be supported in the network, and a transcoder for receiving a media content requested from a subscriber's terminal of a media content server and codec information required by the media content to implement transcoding of the media content by the codec corresponding to the codec information.
