PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of vinylphenanthrene useful as a monomer for functional resins or the like. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of vinylphenanthrene comprises causing a catalytic amount of PdCl<SB>2</SB>(dppf) to react with a vinyl Grignard reagent in an amount of 2-5 equivalents relative to the palladium complex, subsequently with bromophenanthrene represented by formula (1) and then with the remaining vinyl Grignard reagent. In the formula, the substitution position of R and Br may be any one of 1-10; R is a hydrogen atom or a group not participating in the reaction, and may be bonded together to form a ring; m is an integer of 1-7; and n is an integer of 0-9.
